But since the recent and the not-so-recent news involving the Mexican drug war, for some people, the country has gone from a go-to vacation spot to an I-ain’t-going vacation spot, while others seem to book their flights with no trepidation at all, despite the violent news reports.
And although most of the violence has happened outside of tourist destinations, many people—especially Americans—are wondering if it’s still safe to go to Mexico.
“Unequivocally, yes,” said Peter Greenburg, well-known travel expert and Travel Editor for CBS’s “The Early Show” in an interview with ConsumerAffairs. Peter Greenberg (more…)
This is our fifth trip to Playacar Palace and each trip is better than the last, despite the mostly rainy days. This being the first time we had bad weather at this time of the year. This resort in the Palace chain is very special to us as we made so many friends there with other guests and the staff who are always there with a smile and “my pleasure”. We love the size with 200 rooms and proximity to Playa Del Carmen 5th avenue filled with shops, restaurants and bars. It is a vibrant area with lots of activity. The beach is one of the best in the Mayan Riviera mainly due to Cozumel blocking the big waves. Cozumel ferry is a 1 minute walk.
The resort is special because it starts with the leadership of the GM David Rubio who leads from the front picking up empty plates and anything that is out of order while on his daily tour. It travels down to his managers who all follow suit and ensure all their guests have a fabulous experience.
All renovations are complete for the near future with only decorating, new furniture and painting to be done throughout the resort. (more…)
We just returned from one of the most relaxing vacations in a long, long time. We stayed at Isla Mujeres Palace all inclusive resort on the little known gem of Mexico Isla Mujeres (The Island of the Woman). It is not a very big island and has a unique flavour all on its own. We rented a 57 chevy golf cart from Mega Ciro’s Golf Carts and Moped for $42 a day. Drove it all over the island and checked out Garrafon de Castilla Park for snorkeling, zip line and other activities plus checked out all the nice homes on the island. During our travel, we ran into a quaint little bar and grill called The Joint. It is near Garrafon de Castialla Park and plays Reggae music with great food. They offer 3 beers and Guacamole for 100 pesos which is a sweet deal on a very hot day. We loved it and it’s worth a visit.
At Palace, we were in a Concierge room facing the ocean with all the amenities that comes with Concierge, aroma therapy, pillow menu and iPhone dock to name a few. Double sinks behind the hot tub, a nice size balcony and a king size bed, fantastic room with a view. (more…)
We stayed on Isla Mujeres mid June 2013 and on a very hot day while driving the rented 57 Chevy Golf Carts, we heard Bob Marley playing on the side of the road. As we pulled up, we found this little gem called The Joint. (more…)
We recently spent a wonderful week at the Moon Palace Grand (Mar 6th 2013). We were part of a Facebook group trip with members from the Forum for Palace Resorts Members & Friends. There were forty of us and we all had such a wonderful time that planning is in the works for another trip next year.
The Moon is divided into 3 distinctive sections, Sunrise, Nizuc and Grand. Sunrise has more activities with the Noir nightclub and Sky Bar while Nizuc is somewhat quieter, Grand is quite quiet and relaxing. The Grand suites are larger and do not have an ocean view except for Presidential suites. The open lobby at the Grand has a different Happy Hour every night with Martini, Tequila, Shot tasting to name a few. There are three different pool areas (one heated) to enjoy. The grounds offer beautiful landscaping. (more…)
Every trip to Playacar Palace is better than the last.
As a Palace VIP member, we’ve been to a number of the Palace Resorts all with exceptional facilities and service. Playacar is one of our favourites and we were there in September 2012 to celebrate my birthday.
Check in was quick and easy and were on the 5th floor in a Governor’s Suite with a great ocean and resort view. It was like coming home with many of our friends welcoming us with open arms. This resort is about the friendly staff that will go out of their way to ensure you are having a 5/6 star experience.
After the staff, the charm of Playacar is it’s boutique size with 265 suites, the great food and proximity to Playa Del Carmen. Downtown 5th Avenue is less than a minute walk where you can experience shops, restaurants, disco, street artists and liquor shops. You have easy access to Cozumel Palace if you’re staying at Playacr. The ferry to Cozumel is also right there with 2 companies operating the transit. Don’t buy a round ticket as it will limit the time you return. No price advantage to round tickets. (more…)
This was our 3rd trip to Vallarta Palace and it never fails to please. From the first Hola to Itza Pleasure to everything you say thank you to. Staff are there to make your stay memorable. We were there in a Presidential Suite with my sister Monika and her husband Ron along with some friends we met traveling Cynthia and Keith.
The grounds a clean, beach is beautiful and very long. You can walk for hours and not run out. One pool is heated and another is not.
Wood burning pizza oven will make your custom pizza. All four restaurants were excellent. (more…)
