Awesome – Isla Mujeres Jun 2013
We just returned from one of the most relaxing vacations in a long, long time. We stayed at Isla Mujeres Palace all inclusive resort on the little known gem of Mexico Isla Mujeres (The Island of the Woman). It is not a very big island and has a unique flavour all on its own. We rented a 57 chevy golf cart from Mega Ciro’s Golf Carts and Moped for $42 a day. Drove it all over the island and checked out Garrafon de Castilla Park for snorkeling, zip line and other activities plus checked out all the nice homes on the island. During our travel, we ran into a quaint little bar and grill called The Joint. It is near Garrafon de Castialla Park and plays Reggae music with great food. They offer 3 beers and Guacamole for 100 pesos which is a sweet deal on a very hot day. We loved it and it’s worth a visit.
At Palace, we were in a Concierge room facing the ocean with all the amenities that comes with Concierge, aroma therapy, pillow menu and iPhone dock to name a few. Double sinks behind the hot tub, a nice size balcony and a king size bed, fantastic room with a view.
It is a small boutique resort for adults only with 62 rooms. As Palace Members, with our stay we received $1,500 resort credit (the amount will vary whether you are a member or what type of package you are traveling in). With the credits you can upgrade to Concierge room, if available, get a romantic dinner on the beach, tours, upgraded wine list or couples massage on a covered deck over the water, how romantic. The water is usually very warm but there is seaweed in parts of it. I suggest bringing water shoes and snorkel. Lounges with thatched roof tables abound on the beach.
The reason we keep going back to Palace Resorts, (2nd trip this year) is the service and the people. This starts from the top down with General Manager Daniel getting involved on the ground level and Paulo the Food and Beverage manager on the floor every day even clearing tables when necessary with Jose Luis wait manager looking after everything you may need. The proof is in the length of time most of the employees have been there. We saw most of them 2 years ago.
Jose and Uleses at the front desk looked after our needs with the spa and tours plus anything you needed in your room.
Nice pool with a swim up bar serving your favorite drinks by Juan, Daniel and Edy with a snack bar behind and a wood burning pizza oven. Have to love it.
Breakfast and Lunch was always a pleasure when greeted by Rosa and Lourdes always smiling and always greeting you by name.
Dining was also fantastic even though there is only one restaurant. They split into two distinct areas with two separate menus, traditional Mexican and Italian. Both fantastic and if there is something that is not on the menu, Chef Ubaldo would be happy to make it for you. We received a personal cooking lesson, with translation provided by Lourdes, on how to make traditional Empanadas which was a real pleasure and greatly appreciated.
Servers that made our stay special are Arturo, Bernardino, Wilma, Sharanye, Juan and Daniel who also covered the pool bar. There are too many other great people that we just didn’t get to know well but hope to next time.
Now of course without the bar staff, this would not be a great vacation so we had a great time with Diago, Dario, Daniel, Juan and Edy tending the lobby and pool bars with great service and always filled with laughter.
Palace Resorts took care of all the transportation. When we arrived, we were met by Traffic Tours who gave us four Ferry passes, there and back, 2 taxi passes on Isla from the ferry to the Palace and back to the ferry plus a pass from the ferry to the airport. Well orchestrated. Taxi to Ferry is about 30 minutes which run hourly except for 3pm and last ferry is at 11pm. Ferry is about 25 minutes and the taxi to Palace is about 15 minutes. It is roughly 70 minutes of travel.
Daniel and all your staff, Mucho Gracias for such a wonderful vacation. This will become a yearly tradition for us.
